Now men and women alike are making unwanted facial and body hair a thing of the past. No more painful waxing, electrolysis or razors! Northpoint Surgery and Aesthetics laser delivers 21st century technology for treatment of this distressing problem. Cleared for permanent hair reduction, the XEO laser can treat men and women of all skin types and tones safely and effectively. Ditch your razor and shaving cream and come in for laser hair removal! First, here are seven things you should know about laser hair removal.
1. Will it hurt?
Most hair removal treatments feel like a moderate sting for a fraction of a second. Since sensitivity to pain can vary greatly, some areas may be uncomfortable and some areas may not feel treatment at all. Numbing cream is available for purchase if you would like topical anesthetic; simply let us know what your preference is prior to your treatment.
2. How long are the appointments?
The length of time depends on which area you would like treated. The appointments are usually scheduled for anywhere from 30-90 minutes. The actual amount of time the laser is being used can vary from as little as three minutes for an upper lip, to 45-60 minutes for full legs or a man’s back. Usually, subsequent appointments are shorter because there is less hair to treat.
3. How well does it work?
Most patients will have excellent results with 6 treatments. Although it is recommended that you have a once per year maintenance treatment, some patients do not require that.
4. How many treatments are necessary?
The number of treatments required for optimal results varies depending on the area treated, hair density, growth cycle, treatment parameters used, and a number of other factors. Typically 6 to 9 treatments, 6 to 10 weeks apart, are required to achieve the desired results.
5. What results can I expect?
Treatment results may vary among patients. For some, treatment may result in a significant decrease in the frequency with which you must shave. For others, laser hair removal can produce permanent cosmetic improvements, with hair re-growth being minimal, very fine or completely absent. Most patients will lose, on average, 20% to 30% of actively growing hair permanently with each treatment. Everyone will have some re-growth with time regardless of the technology used. Hair that grows back will tend to be much finer and less concentrated.
6. Will my skin scar or blister?
With any laser, this is a possibility. However, with hair removal lasers, this becomes much less likely. They are incredibly gentle on the skin, and have fewer side effects than most lasers that remove hair.
7. If I have light hair (e.g.blonde, grey, red) will I see reduction?
Unfortunately, patients with light colored hair see minimal to no results. The laser targets the melanin and these light hairs do not have enough melanin for the laser to see and destroy the follicle. However, our hair removal lasers are appropriate for all skin types, so don’t hold back if you have darker skin – if you have dark hair, treatment will be effective.

I appreciate this information about laser hair removal. It is good to learn that the number of necessary treatments depends on the area treated, hair density, growth cycle, and treatment parameters used. It would be best to know this information before being treated. Something to consider would be to find a service that can provide this work for a price within your budget.
