If you are like me, you are always searching for crowd-pleasing dishes that are easy to make and give traditional recipes a bit more flair. With our daughter’s birthday and the spring and summer entertaining coming up, I was on the hunt for something special. I was recently introduced to horchata, and I have to say- I’m a little bit in love. Horchata is traditionally a drink, wildly popular in Spanish and Latin American cultures, made from rice, vanilla, cinnamon, and sugar.
A recently-launched, local company is now bringing the delicious flavors of horchata into a versatile concentrate, called Lucky-Oh Horchata. This is exactly the kind of product that excites me – an easy way to add an amazing flavor profile to a variety of recipes!
Lucky-Oh is made with all-natural flavors, with only 10 calories, 2 grams of sugar per serving and does not have artificial colors. It is a caffeine-free, dairy-free and gluten-free concentrate that is delicious and incredible versatile. I can feel good about using Lucky-Oh when I cook for my family and friends, unlike many of the new flavor enhancers you see popping up on grocery store shelves that are filled with chemicals, additives and preservatives.
My passion for this fabulous flavor combination has led my husband and I to experiment with Lucky-Oh over the last few weeks. We have been creating new recipes, adding Lucky-Oh to some of our favorite traditional dishes, and have tried many recipes from the Lucky-Oh website for beverages, breakfasts, smoothies, appetizers, dinners and more.
Lucky-Oh makes milk more interesting and turns cocktails and mock-tails into something special. If you want your store-bought pancake mix to taste like actual cake, try adding a little Lucky-Oh to the mix. Oh my goodness, it’s delicious! You might expect the vanilla and cinnamon flavors to taste amazing in coffee, lattes, and desserts but it also adds depth to guacamole, salads, vegetables, baked goods and casseroles.
My favorite recipes are those that put a fresh spin on classic adult beverages like the “Oh-Fashion” or the “Oh-Jito Mojito.” This past weekend I paired my favorite margarita mix with Lucky-Oh, strawberries, and jalapeños for a sweet and spicy cocktail for the adults at my daughter’s birthday party. My husband tells me it even transforms a shot of tequila into something that no longer requires the whole salt and lime chaser regimen. Since tequila shots are no longer a part of my typical weekend festivities, I think I may have to take his word on that one.
Lucky-Oh comes in a portable 2 oz. bottle with 12 servings so it can easily travel with you for camping, picnics or anytime you want to make your food and drinks extra special.
