Top 5 Red Rocks Concerts

2

After the birth of my daughter I realized that I needed to make more of an effort to seek out things that made me happy. Reading more books quickly became one of the best ways for me to unwind. The other activity I started doing more surprised me. I have always loved music, but going to concerts was never really my thing. After the excitement of seeing The Backstreet Boys and N’SYNC in concert, I just didn’t think I could muster up the energy. Ingrid Michaelson was the first concert I went to after my daughter was born and I went by myself. I didn’t care that I was by myself. I left that breastfeeding baby with her father and hit the town alone. Soon going to concerts became one of my favorite things to do.

We are lucky in Colorado because we have one of the best concert venues in the country, Red Rocks Amphitheatre. In fact, it is hands down my favorite concert venue. Despite the fact that my out of shape, altitude challenged self is often out of breath by the time I get to my seat, it’s still my favorite. You just can’t beat the acoustics, the views, and the energy. In honor of this wonderful landmark, I decided to make a list of my top 5 Red Rocks concerts. I also encourage anyone who has never seen a concert at Red Rocks to put it on your bucket list ASAP. You will not regret it.

Brandi Carlile, August 15, 2015

When my brother asked if I wanted to go to this concert I was kind of ambivalent. I had never really listened to Brandi’s music before, but lucky for me I decided to go anyways. Brandi is awesome live and this is one of my favorite concerts I have ever been to. She is so talented and I quickly became a fan.

Bon Iver, May 31, 2012

This was my first Red Rocks concert. Nobody told me I had to hike to get to my seats, so despite that shock, I was really excited for the show. I have been a fan of Bon Iver ever since I first heard “Skinny Love” and Red Rocks was the perfect venue for him live.

Ingrid Michaelson with the Colorado Symphony, June 21, 2015

Ingrid Michaelson is one of my favorite singers. When I moved back to Colorado after being away for 3 years, I knew I had to be at this concert. The added bonus of having the Colorado Symphony back up Ingrid made for a really beautiful and unique experience.

Gregory Alan Isakov, September 4, 2016

Gregory Alan Isakov opened for Brandi Carlile when I saw her at Red Rocks and I was immediately hooked. I don’t usually pay much attention to the opening acts, but as I sat watching lightning in the distance and feeling the wind on my face, I couldn’t think of a better soundtrack. When I had the opportunity to see him headline a show at Red Rocks (with Ani Difranco as one of his opening acts!!), I made sure to get my tickets. Added bonus, Gregory lives in Colorado!

Goo Goo Dolls, September 13, 2016

I won free tickets to this concert and enjoyed a girls night out with one of my friends. I forgot how many of their songs I liked and it was fun to time warp back to the 90s and hear some of their newer songs.

Although the summer is winding down, concert season at Red Rocks isn’t over yet. I have yet to go to a concert this summer, but I am keeping an eye on the schedule. For a list of upcoming concerts you can check out the Red Rocks events page here. It would make a great date night or mom’s night out!

Have you ever been to a concert at Red Rocks? What’s your favorite concert that you have seen there?

Kristina was born in Boston, but has called many places home since then. Although she has lived in every time zone in the United States, Colorado is by far her favorite place to live. Kristina is married to her middle school crush who she met when she was 12. Together they have a very spirited and sweet 3 year old daughter who is nicknamed Baby Bop. Baby Bop is super extroverted and her mama is a strange combination of an introvert with an outgoing side. Once you get to know her she is anything but quiet. Kristina’s favorite activities include reading, laughing, dancing, singing (loudly), and exploring all of the local playgrounds with her daughter. Kristina recently performed in the 2016 Boulder production of Listen To Your Mother. Her writing has also been featured on The Huffington Post, Scary Mommy, Mamalode, Parent.Co, The Mighty, and more.
