Susan W. is one of our newest contributors, and is already publishing some AWESOME local content! This busy mama has taken the time to tell us all about her #momlife . . .
Kid situation?: One super-fun and strong-willed almost-three-year-old.
Job situation?: I spend half of my time working as the Tobacco Health Communications Team Lead at Jefferson County Public Health and the other half of my time hanging out with my daughter.
Native? Or “Not so Native”?: I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and have lived in Denver for four years (Colorado for almost 14 years).
{Besides being an awesome DMMB Contributor } What are your passions?:Caring for others well. I don’t always succeed, but it’s my goal.
When you’re not in full on mom mode, what do you enjoy doing?: I love spending time in the mountains (I lived in Summit County for almost 10 years and was a semi ski bum in my former life). I have a love/hate relationship with running and always love go for walks in my favorite Denver parks. When I have time (time?!), I like to attempt yoga and telemark skiing. I have always loved music – specifically singing and playing the piano (I’m a little rusty on the piano but have been working on mastering Richard Marx’ Right Here Waiting For You since the 80’s – shoot did I just date myself?). And my newest hobbies include listening to podcasts and reading (yes, it’s a new hobby – I’m the SLOWEST reader). I am a die-hard deal finder and love shopping at thrift stores. Oh, and I love blasting 95.7FM The Party when I’m by myself in the car.
What’s your tagline?: I will be strong, courageous, and not afraid. (I just need to work on listening to myself when I say this and believing it!!!)
Any indulgences?: Pump cheese (like the kind you get on your nachos at a baseball game)
What’s the one thing you NEVER leave the house without?: My phone, wallet, and sunglasses.
What’s the strangest thing in your purse?: A pair of Delta Airlines wings
What’s your favorite smell?: The inside of the freezer at Dairy Queen – seriously.
Describe your mom style: More laid back than I expected I would be!!
hat do you most love about being a mother?: Having the opportunity to watch a child grow and change on a daily basis (it’s a complete miracle), and surprising myself with how capable I really am at doing this mom thing!
What is your most treasured material possession?: I still sleep with my childhood blanket – aka “Blankie”.
What’s your secret to balancing it all?: Taking it one day at a time and using the reminders / calendar tools in my phone!
Favorite metro activities for kiddos?: Visiting Denver libraries, parks (Wash Park, Observatory, Cheesman), and the Denver Botanic Gardens. One of my daughter’s absolute favorite activities is playing on the indoor playground at Cherry Creek Mall. This includes stopping by Godiva for the free monthly truffle (did you know they have a Truffle Club?!) and grabbing a Starbuck’s drink, which are both highlights for me! We also frequent Chick-Fil-A (indoor playground!) and Costco (my kiddo loves samples just like her mom).
